Our latest RV journey took us past many pecan orchards in south Georgia before we arrived at our first destination, Eastbank Campground on the banks of Lake Seminole. Although located in Georgia, the closest town is Chattahoochee, Florida. From our campsite we were treated to a beautiful sunset our first night.
The campsites are large and many are waterfront. It was a great place to wind down from the hustle and bustle of being at home.
We tried geocaching in nearby Chattahoochee, Florida. Our first two attempts were a bust but we enjoyed looking around the train car at the Heritage Park.
We ended the day watching another beautiful sunset.
Our second geocaching excursion took us to part of the Chattachoochee Nature Trail along the Apalachicola River.
No amount of looking over, under, and around the boardwalk helped us find the geocache but I found something better. A baby alligator was sunning himself beside the boardwalk.
We were determined to find the geocache at the train car so we returned there and Henry found it!
Later we drove to the Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam to take a look. The dam and locks were constructed for navigation, hydro- power and recreation purposes on the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and Flint River systems.

Good to see you out and about. Barb and I took the bus over to Red Bay, AL. this past weekend to get new carpeting installed thru out. We were going to do a bit of camping outside of Montgomery at Gunter Hill, but, the weather turned a bit wet, so we can me back to Gainesville to Duckett Mill CG.. The Corp is letting us stay here at Duckett Mill for the winter at no cost to us (full hookup)….we have decided to bid this park for one more year and hang here for the summer. Hooray for a fun first camping trip. 🙂 I almost didn’t want to read this post when I saw ‘geocaching.’ I have all the equipment but am a total failure at it. LOL I tried for a couple of years and just had to save myself the grief and forget it. I found the very first one I ever looked for and never found another one. Pretty funny now that I say that. 🙂

Too funny about your geocache experience. It’s much harder than I thought! My husband keeps searching and I start taking pictures when I get stuck!

What a wonderful start to 2016! We also tried Geo-caching with no success.

We will probably try geocaching again. I give up the hunt much more quickly than my husband. We probably would not have gone on the nature trail if not for the geocache so even if we don’t find it we get to experience seeing new places.

When we first moved to Florida, after we had just discovered hiking in the mountains, we wondered how we’d keep up with nature exploring. We just didn’t know about the fabulous Florida State Parks and preserves. All we thought about were swamps, snakes and alligators! And we were into the motorcycle. Then we learned about geocaching and thought it was great. We only found one treasure. Maybe it was the app on my droid! But then we finally began to discover areas we could “hike.”

Geocaching is harder than I thought too but once we find one the thrill is worth the hunt. Love your baby alligator pic 🙂
