Back Yard Painted Buntings

We’ve been watching painted buntings come to our feeder  in the back yard for the last couple of weeks. For several days every time I set up my camera to capture these beautiful birds I scared them away. They are very skittish and fly off when they sense the slightest movement. 

I never gave up trying and my patience finally paid off when I was able to get a few shots of a pair at the feeder.

The male kept on eating after the female flew off.

After she left he came around to my side of the feeder so I could get a good look at him. The food must be better on this side!

  2. What a treat. I kept hoping we would see one last year when we were on St. Simons, but it was too early in the year. Will they stay around your place for the summer or are they passing through?

    1. Sometimes we see them all summer and sometimes just in the spring and fall. I’m hoping they will stay. There are more than these two around our neighborhood. We saw two males fighting over a perch on the feeder one day.

  6. So happy to see one….as we thought we had a few here but finally learned they were Eastern Bluebirds. Nothing could match that red chest eh??! Now I know for sure 😉

      1. Yes… and editing all these photos has also taken me away from reading my friends posts!
        But I do try to read a few everyday!
