Adventures with Grandkids

One of the greatest joys as a grandparent is seeing our grand children’s excitement as they experience new adventures.

Our daughter is visiting us this week with her two children. At 12 and 10, they are our two oldest grandchildren. They live 400 miles away, surrounded by the Appalachian mountains, so coming to visit Nana and Papa near the beach is always an adventure for them.

On Memorial Day, we beached our boat on a deserted barrier island after a boat ride through rivers and narrow winding creeks surrounded by salt marsh. The adventure brought back fond memories for our daughter and made new memories for the grandkids. It is a ride we took on many weekends when our daughter was growing up and we are so happy we could share the experience with her children.

  1. I know you are having a blast with the grandkids and so thankful the weather finally cleared up. We went to Buck Hammock on Memorial Day with the Motes and Jarrells, had it all to oursleves for a little while. Then a bunch of locals showed up which wasn’t so bad since we knew them, but there were a lot of dogs and that kinda ruin it for us. We finally left and spent the rest of the afternoon at the Jarrells.

  2. Now this is an adventure, I can get behind. When my grands were younger, they absolutely loved the beach. The boat is another story which they will blame on me until the end of time because I tipped a row boat over when they were little. They had life jackets on and never even got their face wet, but it’s all my fault they won’t get in or around a boat today. 🙂

  3. Must be so wonderful for them to come to the beach! Even better that it is at Grandma & Grandpa’s. I love that you now have that memory for both your daughter and for them. Very special.
