Welcome to the next post in my series highlighting states we have visited throughout the years. I hope you will enjoy coming along for the ride!
I will be featuring the states alphabetically. The next state is
Missouri
Missouri became the 24th state on August 10, 1821. The capital is Jefferson City.
From the Mississippi River to the Lake of the Ozarks and many places in between, we had great adventures while in Missouri.
High on our bucket list of things to see in Missouri was the Gateway Arch at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis. Henry rode the elevator up to the top of the arch while I strolled along outside. We hopped on the MetroLink to explore some of the other sights in the city.
What fun it was to explore Hannibal and see so many places where Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer had their adventures.
Harry Truman State Park was a great place for camping and taking a walk on a nature trail.
Our home base for visiting Branson was Table Rock State Park.
One fall we planned a trip to Missouri to attend a football game at the University of Missouri in Columbia. In addition to enjoying a football weekend we also camped beside the Mississippi River at Trail of Tears State Park, enjoyed the spectacular fall colors at Lake of the Ozarks and went shopping at the first Bass Pro Shop in Springfield.

Missouri – now there’s a state I know about. We lived in St Louis a couple of years back (too many years to note here). LOL Every time someone came to visit, I went up to the top of the Arch. We also visited Branson when the ‘only’ thing there was Silver Dollar City. Then we lived for 30+ years in Kansas which put us about 20 minutes from KC, MO. Good memories except for tornado season. 🙂

I’m claustrophobic so I stayed on the ground while my husband rode to the top of the arch! When we found out there was a Cardinals home game that afternoon we debated going but going to the top of the arch won out. I had forgotten how much time we spent in Missouri until I was putting this post together.

Beautiful way you brought us along with you through this post. We never knew you could ride an elevator up the arch. Are there windows to look out on the terrain? Looks like a place we need to visit.

I stayed on the ground while my husband road to the top and yes there are windows to look out. He took some great photos of the city from up there including the one of the Cardinals stadium during a home game. We stayed at the Casino Queen RV park across the river in Illinois and rode the MetroLink to the arch.

Ahhh, we wondered if the photos were from the arch. What a view. Was the “metroLink” user friendly from the RV park?

Yes, we just walked over to it. And there are nice views of the arch from the walkway.

I remember going up in that arch. Love the moon rising photo.

Seeing the moon rise over the Mississippi River was a real treat.

Interesting. We have driven through Missouri a couple of times, but have not spent any time exploring.
