Welcome to the next post in my series highlighting states we have visited throughout the years. I hope you will enjoy coming along for the ride!

I will be featuring the states alphabetically. The next state in my series is

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania became the 2nd state on December 12, 1787. The capital is Harrisburg.

When I was a teenager, my family made a trip to Philadelphia to see the historic sites. All I remember is seeing the Liberty Bell (it was more years ago than I want to admit and I was a teenager after all). About 40 years ago my husband and I took our kids tent camping to Pennsylvania and toured the Hershey factory and the Gettysburg National Military Park. We made some wonderful memories with our children who were two and six at the time. Unfortunately I don’t have photos from those trips.

Just a few years ago Henry and I traveled through Pennsylvania on an RV trip with our fifth wheel. Always looking for a waterfront campsite, we found a great one at Ferryboat Campsites in Liverpool, right on the banks of the Susquehanna River.

The Millersburg Ferry is the last operating ferry on the Susquehanna River. The ferry landing is located in the campground so of course we took a ride across the river.

    1. One of the things I love about traveling is stumbling upon something totally unexpected like this ferry. We stopped there for the night because we thought it would be fun to have a river front site for a couple of nights. The ferry was an added bonus. It was a beauty and very fun to see and ride. When I was a teenager I went with my parents to the Pennsylvania Dutch country. Unfortunately we never were able to work it into any of our RV trips.

  2. I’ve been to Pennsylvania to see the historic sights and have traveled through it numerous times. But, I’ve never camped there or seen this wonderful ferry. What a wonderful find you made. Thank you for sharing because since we are not camping any more, I think this is the only way I may get to see it. 🙂

    1. When we stopped there for the night we didn’t know there was an actual ferry still running. We enjoyed watching it go back and forth across the river and it was really fun to take a ride on it. I love it when we stumble upon something unexpected in our travels.

  5. My home state, too. Did you make it to western PA? It’s the prettier part, in my opinion, with the Appalachians, the now-trendy and cool city of Pittsburgh, etc.

  11. Pennsylvania is my husband’s home state. He left at age 19, only to return a few laters with his new bride, me, in tow! We lived there nearly two years, then he remembered why he left. He hated the cold winters. Then years later, I had a job transfer to work in Philadelphia. We lived across the Delaware River in New Jersey (where he has sweet memories of summer vacations at the beach), so it was palatable. I could see the Liberty Bell from my office! We both love history, so we were immersed in it. Lancaster and the Hershey Park were two of our favorite places to go when “company” came to see us. We moved away 7 years later. We took a motorcycle trip from Virginia up to Rochester, driving through western PA on Highway 15. We enjoyed a few days in Gettysburg. We are now thinking of taking a month to rediscover the state!
