Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #165 – Going Wide

For this challenge our host Patti has asked us to Go Wide for some wide angle shots. This challenge got me thinking about some of the huge magnificent natural wonders I have photographed in my travels. I don’t have a wide angle lens so for most of these images I had to move around until I could find the right spot to capture as much as I could of the subject.

It’s hard to imagine the size of Niagara Falls until you’ve seen it in person. In the image above I tried to capture all of the Niagara Falls Canada. It’s so wide I had to try several different view points before I could fit it all in the camera frame. The image below shows the American Falls on the left and the Canadian Falls on the right. I wasn’t able to get all of the American Falls in the shot.

These next few images are from various trips we have made. Trying to get these huge formations into the frame was quite a challenge! In some cases I backed up as far as I could go to get the picture I wanted.

The Cliffs of Moher, Ireland
Arches National Park, Utah – The people standing near the bottom of the photo give you an idea of the size of the arches
Isle of Skye, Scotland – the cars on the road give you an idea of how big the area is
Monument Valley, Utah and Arizona
Grand Canyon North Rim, Arizona

  3. Beautiful wide angle shots! And aren’t they lovely places! Well done my friend!

    I stood in those exact spots for Niagara Falls and Monument Valley. Hard to capture the vast beauty! But you did it!

  6. Your post reminds me of how spectacular our national parks really are. Love the Arches photo and the one from Scotland (a country we’ve never visited)! Thanks for including all these wide, wonderful pictures. And, by the way, it’s football season. Are you going to Georgia Bulldog games? We passed on the first two TN games, but my husband may brave the crowds this Saturday.

    1. I agree. Our National Parks are real treasures. We decided to give up our Georgia season tickets after the 2019 season before COVID. Sadly, we don’t have plans to go to any games this year. I sure was happy to full stadiums on TV these last two weekends. We’ll be cheering on the Dawgs from our living room this year.

  7. I love all your choices. We live in such a diverse country and your photos show that. I so appreciate your photo of the Cliffs of Moher. the day we were there it was socked in with fog. That said…a beautiful walk on those cliffs, isn’t it.

    My niece is named for the Isle of Skye… I din’t know it was that big, isn’t even sure people actually lived there. Very nice. Donna

  9. Hi, Beth. Great choices for the challenge. These natural wonders are breathtaking! I have seen some of them, but not all. More places to visit! I especially enjoyed your shot of the Cliffs of Mohr and Niagara. It’s hard to wrap our mind around the enormity of these wonders!

    1. Thanks Tina! Sadly I couldn’t find too many wide shots with people in the photo. You can’t see them unless you zoom in but there are people standing on the top of the Cliffs of Moher.

  11. I love your photos. The view of the horseshoe falls is fabulous. What a wonderful vantage point you found! Moher and Skye are also wonderful. The scale astounds, when you notice what the roads, people, and cars look like in that landscape.
