We are in the middle of the butterfly breeding season. I’ve seen pairs of Monarch butterflies flying around our yard recently and the females have been laying their eggs on milkweed leaves in my small backyard butterfly garden.
This morning I counted seven caterpillars on the milkweed including two different pairs munching on the leaves.

After about two weeks of eating, the caterpillar will be full grown and will make it’s crysalis. Approximately 10 days later the monarch butterfly will emerge.
This post was inspired by Discover Prompts Day 9 -Pairs.
Love all stages of the Monarch! So sweet.

Me too! I have a hard time finding a chrysalis. I love seeing the butterflies and the caterpillars.

Always! That’s something I love about Florida – we always have butterflies year round.

Laurel, thank you. I first planted milkweed several years ago. I will other flowers this summer. So much fun to watch the butterflies and bees in the garden.

Terrific! I hope we see some this year like we did last year. Prior to that we hadn’t seen any in years.

Judy, thank you. Last year we hardly had any. I hope they keep coming this year. I can’t wait until I can get to the garden center for some more plants!

I went to our local nursery/greenhouse this week with mask and gloves. There were five times as many employees as there were customers. 😦

I am tempted to do that next week!

Ingrid, thank you. I have seen plenty of butterflies but they are moving too fast for me to get a good picture. Hopefully when the new ones emerge I’ll have better luck. 😎

Oh how FABULOUS! It is wonderful that we are seeing more monarchs… and it’s because of people like you that have what they need!

Thanks Nancy! It’s nice to be able to have the garden for them to come to. The bonus is I get to observe them when they are here.
