For this challenge JohnBo has asked us to show examples of how we use these tools of photo composition: Shape, Form, Texture and Light.
In my opening photo above I like the shapes of triangles for the roof and rectangles for the windows and shutters in this colorful building at the Carabelle Batik Studio in St. Kitts.
The image below focuses on the natural forms and texture of the hoodoos in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah.

One of my favorite times to use light is at sunset. Watching the sunset as our cruise ship was sailing out of San Juan, Puerto Rico was a perfect ending to the day.

Many thanks to our host John for the challenge Lens-Artists #289 – Tools of Photo Composition

Oh, I love the yellow shapes in that first image, but sunset from the deck of a cruise ship is always a great way to capture the end of a day of exploration.

Thanks John! Sorry I was a day late answering the challenge. I’m still trying to get caught up after our cruise. I was out almost every night of the cruise watching the sunset. There were some beauties.

You always have photos that match the theme so well. Love the photo of the yellow cottage, that was a style you often saw in the Caribbean years ago.

Karen, thank you for your kind words. There were a lot of colorful buildings around the islands we visited. That yellow cottage was my favorite.

They’re all great examples of using line, texture, and light in your composition, BJ. I loved the bottom image the best in this post. It was a gorgeous sunset. It must have been really glorious in person.

Thanks Tina. As soon as I saw the little yellow house I had to get a picture. There are lots of colorful houses in the Caribbean but this one was my favorite.
