Patti has chosen cityscapes for this challenge. I’m not a city girl. I would much rather be in a small town, out in the country, or exploring nature.
There is one city that is near and dear to my heart and that is Savannah, Georgia. I was born in Savannah (I’m not telling you how many years ago that was) when my father was in the U. S. Air Force stationed at Hunter Air Force Base (now Hunter Army Airfield). We moved away when I was three years old. Many years later my husband’s job brought me back to Savannah. I’ve lived within 20 miles of Savannah for over 40 years.
Savannah is a popular tourist destination with it’s beautiful squares, ancient live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, a picturesque river front, Bonaventure Cemetery, and lots of history. Tourism increased after the release of John Berent’s novel “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”. In Savannah the novel is known as “The Book.” Hollywood discovered Savannah and it has become a popular filming location for movies such as “Forrest Gump”, “Glory”, “The Last Song” and of course the Clint Eastwood directed “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”.

Many thanks to our host Patti for the challenge Lens-Artists #291 – Cityscapes

Beth, how wonderful it was that you featured your hometown of Savannah. Those are beautiful photos. I especially liked the beauty and tranquility of the cemetery and its flowers. Gorgeous!

Many thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the Savannah images. They are all from my archives because I haven’t been able to capture the spring flowers that are booming right now in Savannah.

Love Savannah and find it very similar to Charleston, especially when both are in bloom. It’s been a few years since my last visit tho. Your lovely views remind me I need to get back there one of these days Beth. Beautiful post

Tina, I’m glad you enjoyed the images and enjoy coming to Savannah. I had to go through my archives for these photos. The azaleas and other blooms are beautiful this year but I haven’t been able to get out for a photo shoot. If you ever get back to Savannah let me know. I would love to meet you in person.

We drove through Savannah a few weeks ago on our way back to Virginia from our Florida trip, and once more I told myself, I really need to visit the city. Someday I will! Your photos remind me why, Beth. Thanks.

I’ve been to Savannah once several years ago, but the beauty still stays with me in my memories – Spanish Moss on the trees, beautiful architecture, and oh those delicious pralines. No one makes pralines like they do there. 🙂

Judy, I agree with you on the pralines!

Love these images of your hometown. I first and last visited in the late 90s and loved it. I need to plan a return visit – it’s been too long!

Nancy, thank you. There has been a lot of growth since the 90’s but still beautiful.

That cemetery! Truly a place of reflection for family and friends. I would imagine many just love walking the grounds. Never been to Savannah. Looks like a place we would love exploring. I am not sure I knew all those movies were on location in Savannah. I enjoyed this Beth, and learned a few things.

Thanks Donna. Savannah has been discovered by tourists and Hollywood. Many other movies and tv shows have been filmed here. Yes, many people enjoy walking the grounds of Bonaventure Cemetery. In the spring the azaleas are beautiful and in the winter the camellias are in bloom There are some famous people buried there and tours are available. If you ever decide to come for a visit let me know and we can have a meet up!
