Savannah Scottish Games and Celtic Festival 2024

The Savannah Scottish Games and Celtic Festival took place this year on May 4. It was a beautiful day despite a short rain shower in the middle of the day. We arrived in time to see the Pipes and Drums Band enter the field for the opening ceremonies.

The festival was held on the beautiful grounds of historic Bethesda Academy. Ancient live oak trees dripping with Spanish Moss surrounded the event area.

I have Scottish ancestors on both sides of my family so we stopped to check out the genealogical tent before wandering around to see the rest of the activities.

Border Collie demonstrations, Highland Dancing competition, and Celtic music performances were all taking place at the same time as the Heavy Athletics. Oatland Island Wildlife Center had a presentation of Birds of Prey where we saw Wassaw, a rescued American Bald Eagle. There were also food trucks, kids activities, and vendors selling many different Scottish items.

The Scottish Heavy Athletics competition featured feats of strength and agility. Several different competitions were taking place on the athletic field at the same time.

We enjoyed the day and arrived home in time to watch the Mystik Dan win the 150th Kentucky Derby.
