Tina brings us the fun challenge of cats and dogs. I’ve always been a dog person. When I was growing up we had dogs but never had a cat.
Family Dogs
Shortly after Henry and I married we became Labrador Retriever owners. Through the years we have had two different black Labs, a chocolate Lab named Blue, and Blondie. Blondie was our best friend and traveling companion for many years. She traveled thousands of miles with us in the back seat of our truck as we towed our RV around the U.S. and Canada. She chased tennis balls and swam in great lakes, oceans, creeks, ponds, and rivers.
We lost her in 2017. I still miss her today.

Working Sled Dogs in Alaska
During our Alaska travels we enjoyed meeting some of the working sled dogs in Denali National Park and visited the Iditerod Headquarters to meet some of those beautiful dogs.

Working Sheep Dogs
When we traveled to Ireland we enjoyed a demonstration of sheep dogs herding sheep.

The University of Georgia mascot Uga (pronounced “ug-a”)
The University of Georgia Mascot is a pure white English Bulldog named Uga. There have been eleven Ugas through the years. UGA IV attended the Heisman Trophy banquet in 1982 with Herschel Walker who won the Heisman Trophy that year. UGA V was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated as the number one college mascot in 1997 and had a part in the movie “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.”
Below, in the image on the left Uga VII is walking on the sidelines in front of his air conditioned dog house during a home game in Athens, Georgia. On the right is Uga X at an event in Savannah. The latest mascot is Uga XI who’s real name is “Boom”.

A Cat who was a Mayor
In 2013 we met a famous cat named Stubbs who was the Mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska. He passed away in 2017 after serving as Mayor for 20 years.

Many thanks to Tina for this fun challenge Lens-Artists #333 – Cats and Dogs

I imagine this post brought you some smiles and good memories. Handsome fur friends you have here.

Judy, ye, it brought back many smiles remembering all our dogs. I wish I had more photos of our first 2 labs. They all had different personalities.

Such a sweet post, Beth. Blondie looks like she was a very happy camper! Is the first photo one of her as a puppy?

Lindy, yes., Blondie was 8 weeks old, right after we got her.

I love this one! Blondie is so sweet – what a precious pup you had. I also especially like Uga and Stubbs – mayor in Talkeetna. What sweeties! We have a mama raccoon right now that we’ve named Stubbs. Something along the way happened and she has no tail. But she is doing fine and has been bringing around 3 cute babies every evening.

Pam, Blondie was a special dog. She was gentle with all of our grandchildren and any other child she met. Your mama Stubbs must be very trusting to bring her babies by in the evening.

It is sad when our good buddy leaves to the ‘happy hunting grounds’ 😿

Yes, it’s sad when we lose a beloved pet. I have many happy memories of all our dogs.

Oh, Beth, I’m sorry for your loss. Blondie is so friendly. That face never met a stranger, I bet. I’m glad you also posted some of the Iditerod dogs. When we were in Alaska, we saw them, too.

Egidio, thank you. You are right. Blondie never met a stranger and she loved children. All of our grandchildren loved her. I loved seeing the sled dogs in Alaska. We watched a demonstration of them pulling the sled but I was enjoying it so much I didn’t get a good photo.

LOL for the “mayor” Beth, too funny! A great variety of wonderful pets and working dogs. Your Blondie must have been an amazing family member.

Tina, thank you. Blondie was part of our family for many years. All of our grandchildren loved her. Stubbs was mayor of Talkeetna, a quirky small town in Alaska. He made national news when he was attacked by a dog shortly after we were there.

Aww, all those fur babies! I love having a dog, but it sure hurts when they leave us. Love the mayor and pics of the dogs doing their things!

We had a yellow lab. Bailey was her name. She was a sweetheart! So I know how much you loved your fur kids. 🥰
