Anne’s challenge is to show images where texture plays an integral part. She tells us “Texture helps my two-dimensional examples have a three-dimensional quality.”
For me, the beach is a place of many textures. In some places the sand is soft, and others the powerful wave action of the ocean crushes the shells creating a rough texture that’s not fun to walk on in bare feet.

Driftwood on the beach becomes weathered by the elements creating a rough texture on the wood. Barnacles can attach themselves to the driftwood creating a crusty texture. Running your had along these sharp barnacles could easily cause you to get a cut.

Salt air, wind, rain and the heat from the sun can cause wooden structures like piers and docks and even homes to become cracked and dried out creating a rough texture. Watch out for splinters if you rub the wood with your fingers.

I didn’t see this rabbit at the beach but I’ll finish with the soft texture of the fur of a cottontail rabbit.

Last week your responses to Ann-Christine’s Illustrated Quotes challenge were fun and inspirational. Thank you to everyone who joined the challenge..

Wonderful examples of textures, Beth. I particularly like the rocks. Those shades of blue really pop and the rocks have great depth.

Vicki, many thanks! I can only imagine how long it for the ocean to smooth out those rocks.

Love the pebbles but I have to vote for the bunny as my favourite. Who doesn’t love a wee cottontail? xx

Wonderful and beachy response Beth. Yes, there are lots of textures to be found on the beach and yours are beautiful. However, the bunny just begs to be cuddled, but just try to catch it. What a tease!

Thanks Anne! I really enjoyed the challenge. Full disclosure, the rabbit wasn’t at the beach.

Lovely images Beth – feels like home to me! We don’t really get the rocks though so I loved those, especially the blue ones! And the textured wood is wonderful. Looks to me like the eye of a large creature!

Thanks Tina! The rocks were on a Pacific Ocean beach in Washington. Many of the boards on the pier had interesting texture in them.

Oh how wonderful, the beach is a great place to demonstrate texture in photos! Really like the barnacles on the driftwood!

Thanks Pamela! The driftwood with the barnacles may have been underwater for a while to get that many barnacles. They are sharp to the touch.

I love all the textures and beauty that wood, shells, sand, and rocks bring. I would add tide pool life like star fish and sea anemones.

Curt, many thanks. I thought about a star fish but for some reason decided not to use it.
