Sunday Stills – Trees in Coastal Georgia

Terri’s theme for this challenge is Trees. She asks us to share any kind of trees and be creative with the simple prompt. I am going to focus on three types of trees we see all around us in Coastal and South Georgia.

My featured image is a mixture of Live Oak trees and palm trees in our neighborhood. The first image in the below gallery is a Maritime Forest on Jekyll Island. The other two are Live Oak trees draped with Spanish Moss.

Cabbage Palms, also known as a Sabal Palmetto, is the only palm tree native to Georgia.

The final gallery shows Cypress trees in the Okefenokee Swamp in south Georgia.

Many thanks to Terri for her Sunday Stills challenge All the trees in the field

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #362 – Sports, Sporting Events and Fun Games

Everyone gets scared, and everyone falls. The key is to get back up and try again.

Shannon Miller, American gymnast, winner of 7 Olympic medals

My featured image is from the 1996 Olympic yachting events in Savannah.

According to Dictionary.com, the definition of sport is: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

This week I am challenging you to feature sports activities. Show us your favorite sports, teams, athletes, fans, sporting equipment, stadiums, or anything else related to sports.. You can also include fun games you can play with your friends such as croquet, ping pong or horseshoes.

I have many happy memories of cheering on my children and grandchildren at their sporting events

I hated every minute of training, but I said “Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion”

Have you ever witnessed or participated in a triathlon? The following gallery shows the start of the swim portion of a triathlon in Florida and two bicyclists in the cycling portion of a triathlon in Virginia. In my mind, every one who participates in a triathlon is a champion.

Kite surfing, surfing, paddle boarding and swimming are just a few of the many types of water sports.

My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging.

Hank Aaron, American baseball player who held the record for most home runs in a season for many years

This baseball gallery includes former Atlanta Braves pitcher Greg Maddux, an Atlanta Braves spring training game, and the St. Louis Cardinals’ Busch Stadium as seen from the top of the St. Louis Arch. Play Ball!

This motor sports gallery includes the start of the Daytona 500 NASCAR race and a power boat race.

Do you enjoy fun outdoor games like Croquet?

American football season is almost here. Soon high school stadiums will be filled with fans as the teams compete on Friday nights, on Saturdays college campuses will be filled with fans in town to attend the game, and on Sundays games in the professional NFL will be played all across America.

My husband and I have always been huge fans of University of Georgia Bulldogs. We had season tickets for many years and on many Saturdays we would cheer on the Dawgs from our seats in Sanford Stadium. This gallery shows the excitement of game day with fans tailgating before a big game, the team running through the band as they enter the field, the stadium filled with fans for a night game, and action on the playing field.

Today there are hundreds of different sports played around the world. Your challenge is to show images from any sports or games you choose. They can be action shots, crowds of fans dressed in their team colors, stadiums and other venues, your favorite team or athlete, sports you participate in, or anything else sports related.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of your sports images. Use your imagination and have fun! Be sure to tag your post with Lens-Artists and include a link back to this post. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Sofia shows us many wonderful examples of doors as her challenge of doors takes a look back to Tina’s 2018 challenge #20: Open Sesame: Doors and Doorways.

My header image looks through a red gate to the door of an Irish church.

I chose some miscellaneous doors for the first gallery.

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #360 – Fairs/Markets

For this challenge Ann-Christine asks us to share our memories of fairs, Farmers’ markets, Christmas markets, or carnivals.

It has been many years since I went to a fair or carnival but I sometimes enjoy strolling through open air markets and Farmer’s markets or attending festivals. Unfortunately I’m usually too busy browsing and shopping to take any photos so I’m afraid I don’t have many images to share.

The following image and the featured image are from the open air market in Marigot in St. Martin. The stalls were filled with colorful locally made items.

The Savannah Scottish Games and Celtic Festival is held every May. The colorful kilts of the clans, the sounds of the bagpipes, athletic competitions, tents from various clans, food vendors, Irish Dancers, and Irish Music are a few of the fun things to enjoy at the festival.

One year we stumbled upon the Llano Fiddle Fest when we were traveling around Texas. We had fun for two days tapping our toes to the music of the talented fiddle players.

The Savannah Book Festival is held every February. Book lovers turn out despite the chilly weather for a chance to hear a talk by their favorite author and hopefully get their book autographed. Some of the lines can get quite long for some of the authors.

I’ll finish with a beautiful display of vegetables for sale at a Farmer’s Market in Virginia.

Last week the responses to John’s challenge Photo Composition with Lines, Colors and Patterns were very creative and fun. Be sure to check back on Saturday, August 16 at noon Eastern Time when Sofia will be hosting the challenge

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #359 – Tools of Photo Composition: Lines, Colors, and Patterns

John’s challenge is to find examples of photographs that feature compositional elements such as lines, patterns, or colors. I see these elements all around me in man made structures and in nature.

In the featured image the black walkway on this pedestrian bridge leads your eye to the figure dressed in red at the end of the walkway. The pattern of the green supports surrounding the walkway frame the walkway.

This wooden dock over the salt marsh is made with lines and interesting patterns that reflect in the water at high tide.

The Monarch Caterpillar is an example of colors and patterns in nature.

Vibrant colors and patterns in these hot air balloons.

Last week Tina’s challenge was Live and Learn. I learned some new things from your wonderful responses. Be sure to check back on Saturday, August 9 noon Eastern Time when Ann-Christine will be hosting the challenge.
