Lens Artists Photo Challenge #284 – Day and Night

For Sofia’s challenge of Day and Night I chose an image of the full moon rising for my header. The following images from my archives are photos showing the same subject at day and at night.

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #281 – Favorite Images 2023

In 2023 we took a few short road trips, I flew to New Mexico, and we went on a fantastic cruise. When we weren’t wandering we enjoyed being at home in Coastal Georgia. Here are a few of my favorite images from the year.

In June we stopped at the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia on our way to Orlando.

I traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico in October to attend the Albuquerque Internal Balloon Fiesta for the first time. Each day began with a morning glow followed by lots of activity as the balloon crews prepared the balloons for launch.

Our final trip of the year was a cruise to the Panama Canal and Central America. Passing through the Gatun Locks was the highlight of the cruise. There were great adventures as we traveled into Central American rain forests and saw wildlife we’ve never seen anywhere else.

Many thanks to all of our Lens-Artists hosts for all of the photo challenges in 2023. I’m looking forward to whatever challenges they bring us in 2024.

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #280 – Last Chance 2023

For this challenge Tina has asked us to include some of our favorite images of 2023. We can include images on any and all subjects that are personal favorites – BUT, they must have been created in 2023 AND must not have been previously published in response to a Lens-Artists Challenge!

The following are some of my favorite images that somehow never fit into any of the Lens-Artists challenges.

Cormorant
Camellia
Great Blue Heron
Farmer’s Market in Virginia
Backyard Squirrel

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #278 – Unique

Our challenge from Amy is to show things that are unique.

I took a blogging break while we were on a recent cruise. We had a few unique experiences during our journey.

The highlight of the cruise was a partial transit of the Panama Canal. The ship entered the original Gatun Locks from the Caribbean near Colon, Panama. The above image shows the ship passing through the first of three locks before entering the Gatun Lake. After a short while on the lake the ship turned around and returned back to the Caribbean.

Another unique experience was in Jamaica. Hummingbirds were flying all around us when a hummingbird perched on my finger to drink nectar from a tiny bottle. Thanks to Henry for capturing this moment. It only lasted a few seconds.

Celebrating Thanksgiving with a delicious dinner on a cruise ship was a new experience for us. And I didn’t have to do any dishes!

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #274 – Asymmetry

Last week Sophia challenged us to show symmetry in our images. This week Donna has challenged us to show asymmetry – an informal sense of balance.

My first two images use the rule of thirds to show asymmetry.

For some reason I often capture birds in groups of three. The following images are some of my favorite bird trios.
