Lens Artists Photo Challenge #269 – On the Edge

Our host Patti has asked us to show images of people, places or things on “the edge”. The header image is of the West Quaddy Lighthouse in Lubec, Maine. The lighthouse is located on the easternmost point in the United States so it is on the edge of America.

Next are two more lighthouses. Each is located high above the water on the edge of a cliff.

Bass Harbor Head Light, Bass Harbor, Maine
Split Rock Lighthouse on Lake Superior, Minnesota

Although I’m afraid of heights, my husband Henry isn’t. He loves to get close to the edge of a cliff while I stand back, far away from the edge.

I’ll end with a few images of animals on ledges.

Iguana on the edge of a wall, San Juan, Puerto Rico
Alligators near the edge of the walking and bike path, Everglades National Park, Florida
Pair of doves on the edge of a railing, Georgia
Bluebird on the edge of our truck mirror

Many thanks to our host Patti for the challenge Lens-Artists Challenge #269 – On the Edge

  1. Great job covering the theme! My favorite is the alligators photo by the sign for hikers and bikers to move to the edge!
I did go review all your old Texas-related posts and really enjoyed your coverage of my home state, too! I’m looking forward to you next adventure.

    1. Nancy, many thanks! Seeing those alligators lined up like that was kind of scary! We had a great time traveling around Texas during bluebonnet season! Where do you live in Texas?

      1. I grew up in the Houston area and have lived there most of my life. We have a second house in Waco though for all the sports and other activities we attend at Baylor.

  2. Wonderful collection, Beth. Lighthouses always thrill me, but so do glaciers! We’re currently planning a trip to Everglades National Park, so I’ve been wondering about those alligators and crocodiles. They look so terrifying!

    1. I love the Everglades! These alligators were at shark valley. You can walk or ride bikes on that trail. You can also take a tram tour. We loved camping in Flamingo in the national park. Lots of places to view wildlife there. Also be sure to stop at the Big Cypress Visitorā€™s Center if you drive across the Tamiami trail. Have fun!

  3. Terrific choices this week Beth. I must admit despite how used to alligators we are here on Kiawah, even I would probably skip that walking path!!! The lighthouses are great and I loved the little bluebird on the mirror.

    1. Tina, it was amazing how many people walked or rode their bikes right by those gators. I was nervous about it but I had my picture made near one of them! I was the bluebird out on the mirror out of our kitchen mirror, grabbed my camera and was able to get some pics before he few off. And I love lighthouses!

  4. Such nice choices for the week, Beth. I loved the lighthouses perched on the cliff edges. I think my favorite this week was your husband on the edge. It brings great perspective of the vastness of the area where you stand. Cool iguana too. Looks like he is modeling for you .

  5. I stand back very far away from the edge too. The funny thing is that even though I’m afraid of heights, I keep planning our Europe holidays in the mountains. šŸ˜ƒ
