Terri’s latest Sunday Stills challenge is Hooves and Claws in honor of National Bison Day which was celebrated on Saturday, November 1, 2025. She tells us that “this week’s Sunday Stills photo challenge is not just about bison, but about members of the animal kingdom that possess HOOVES and CLAWS.”
I decided to focus only on animals with hooves and mostly on bison and buffalo. Sadly, the hooves aren’t visible in all these images. The header image is of a small herd of American Bison at Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky.

These are wonderful images of the bison, Beth. And a bonus water buffalo and Clydesdale too! You got great pics of the bison standing up, not grazing!

Thanks Terri! The bison are amazing to see. If you ever get to South Dakota be sure to visit Custer State Park. There is a very large bison herd there. It’s a beautiful park. I couldn’t resist including the Clydesdales!

Thanks Nancy! I saw the Clydesdales on year when they were in Savannah for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. They are beautiful to see!

I love the Clydesdales and have been known to tear up at their holiday commercials. I know, sappy, but I can’t help it. 🙂

Judy, I’ve been known to shed a tear at those commercials, too. It was really fun to see the Clydesdales in person.

When we first got married, we lived in St. Louis for two years. Touring the Clydesdale barns was a thrill I’ve never forgotten. We use to have them here in NH as well, but they moved out and only stop here when in the area for an event. Amazing animals.

Thanks Judy. Touring the Clydesdale barn must have been a real treat. The Clydesdales used to make regular appearances in the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade. They don’t come as often any more.

I’ve seen the Clydesdales a few times. Once up close at the California State Fair. As for buffalo, the most I’ve ever seen in one place was definitely at Custer State Park. Peggy and I were there at the round-up once. Love your photos, Beth. Great memories.

Thanks Curt! I agree that Custer had the most buffalo I’ve ever seen in one place. The bison round-up at Custer must have been amazing to see! Glad my photos brought back good memories for you.

We weren’t sitting in the stands on the roundup but parked up the hill where we could see the cowboys herding them in, Beth. It’s a greatly desired position to be part of the roundup, with very specific qualifications.
