Great choices for the theme, Beth. The contrast between the huge landscapes and the tiny human figures gives a powerful sense of scale, and a reminder of how small we are in the world, despite the great impact we have on it.

Thanks Suzette! I’m glad you enjoyed the Grand Canyon image. It’s hard to imagine how huge it is until you see people to illustrate its size.

Your gallery of iconic sites truly shows your use of these basic concepts, Beth! Wonderful examples. My favorite is the view of the Grand Canyon with people showing the canyon’s massive scale. I admit when I took my first images of the Grand Canyon, I had no real size comparisons in my photos to scale the grandeur of the park.

Thanks John! This is a great challenge. I forgot I had that image of the people on the overlook at the Grand Canyon. When I found it as I was looking through my archives I knew I had to use it. I got the inspiration for the Mount Rushmore shots when I was watching a rerun of “North by Northwest” last week.

Nice shots. The people under the arch really help the image succeed.

Bob, thank you. I didn’t realize how huge the arch was until we hiked to see it up close. I’m glad those total strangers stood underneath it so I could get that shot.

That example of scale really shows how tiny we, a step back from any self-importance we might be feeling at any time. The arches at Fort Pickens made me google the location. I’d love to visit one day.

True! Without scale, it’s hard to tell the size of rock formations. Great shot!

Beth, the Arch and the Canyon is so amazing to see. Especially when you have some people there to illustrate the vastness of the place.

Thanks Teresa. It’s hard to imagine the size of that arch and the Grand Canyon without having something in the photo to show the scale.
