State 11:
Welcome to the next post in my series highlighting states we have visited throughout the years. I hope you will enjoy coming along for the ride!
I will be featuring the states alphabetically. The next state is
Illinois
Illinois became the 21st state on December 3, 1818 and the capital is Springfield.
Sometimes in our travels the only way to get to our destination was to go through Illinois. As we traveled through the state we discovered beautiful lakes, country roads, fields of corn, farms, historic places, and even saw Superman in Metropolis.

I’m really glad we took the time to tour Abraham Lincoln’s home in Springfield, Illinois. The Double J Campground was a few miles out of town with a corn field in our back yard.

Just goes to show there are interesting sights to see anywhere. I grew up in Illinois and couldn’t wait to move. I still go back to visit family but do so reluctantly 😉

I enjoy seeing all the farms with the neat old barns and driving on country roads. And I try to find something interesting where ever we spend the night. I just didn’t realize how many times we spent a night or two in Illinois until I started putting this post together. Rend Lake was pretty but it was about 100 degrees when we stayed at there one June!

We loved our wanderings through Illinois. Before going there we looked at each other with questions. After we began exploring we discovered so, so many wonderful places. Its exciting for us to see the places you visited there, giving us more depth to the many facets of that great State. After all it yielded one of the greatest presidents whom we truly respect.

Isn’t that the way it seems to work. Its when we pause and reflect that our chins drop with renewed excitement at the blessings and accomplishments. As fun as being on the road is it requires being sharp and on your game. Be safe you two and keep sharing. We love it. You keep adding to our list of places to go.

We lived in St. Louis for a while so we crossed into Illinois many times. We also visited Chicago several times and have driven through Illinois on the way to somewhere else too many times to count. We have not done any sightseeing, and I think we definitely would have liked the Lincoln house. 🙂

Judy, the Lincoln house was worth a visit. We avoided Chicago so we wouldn’t have to pull the trailer around it. There are a lot of places you can’t get to from Georgia without passing through Illinois!

I understand. Every time I was in Chicago I was staying at a hotel. 🙂
