We’re not traveling as much in our fifth wheel anymore so I thought it would be fun to relive some of our most memorable days from previous RV trips.
Part 1 of our January, 2012 RV trip around Florida
On this day eight years ago on January 2, 2012, we were camped on the Florida Gulf Coast in St. Joseph Peninsula State Park in Port St. Joe, Florida. It was our second stop of a month long trip wandering around Florida.
Located on the St. Joseph Peninsula on the Emerald Coast of Florida, the beautiful white sand beach was just a short walk from the campsite. The sunsets were spectacular and sometimes we had the beach all to ourselves.

Sadly, the campground suffered a lot of damage from Hurricane Michael in October, 2018. Although the park is recovering, the campgrounds are still closed. More information about the closure can be found here.
Beautiful shot. sorry your campground closed. Hope you have some RV trips again soon

Thanks Judy! I hope they finish the repairs soon so it can be enjoyed again. The best part was walking out to the beach and being the only ones there!

Hi Beth, I have been following their progress and will be up that way in February to check it out first hand. I just saw the new foot path in an Instagram post this morning. It looks very nice, even though there are still lots of broken/sawed trees laying about. That first picture is incredible.

Suzanne, I’m glad you like that photo. The beach was empty most of the time we were there. I would be interested to hear about how the restoration is coming along. We were in the Shady Pines campground which was the farthest from the entrance. The only people who went to that beach were camping there.

Thank you Tina. Yes, it is sad to see the devastation one storm can bring.

The photos are lovely. The west coast of Florida is so different from the Atlantic side…love the beautiful white beaches and the great sunsets.

Karen, thank you. We’ve been all over Florida and have each place we’ve been is different. The white sand beaches of the Gulf Coast can’t be beat.

I’m sorry you’re not camping as much now, WD. Your images are really beautiful. I can see why you’d want to return there.
