In honor of Earth Day Donna asks us to “showcase anything from rocky landscapes to cobblestone streets”. I was excited when I first read her challenge because I have so many pictures of rocks I didn’t even know where to begin. It was hard but I finally chose the few I’ve included here.
The header image and the first gallery are natural rocks I’ve found during our travels. The header is of cactus flowers growing on top of Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg, Texas.
These next magnificent natural rocks deserve a gallery of their own.
The next gallery shows some ancient man made rock structures.
This final gallery includes some rocks Henry collected during our years of Wandering Around the United States and Canada in our RV. If any of you have ever seen the 1954 movie “The Long, Long Trailer” starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz you’ll know that rock collecting while traveling in an RV might not be a good idea.
After we watched the movie, I resisted collecting rocks. Little did I know that Henry was collecting them! Luckily, he limited his collection to small rocks. The three in the big image on the left were collected during our Alaska and Canadian travels in 2013. The two smaller images on the right are the front and back of a rock Henry picked up in the cemetery near Seth Bullock’s grave.
Many thanks to our host Donna for the challenge Lens-Artists #295 – Rock Your World
Great selection and wonderful images, BJ!
I collect rocks everywhere I go. Sometimes I leave a rock I’ve painted, but not in National Parks.

Thank you! I like your idea of leaving a painted rock. They must bring joy to people who find them.

Love all the rock pictures! And I love “The Long, Long Trailer.” Perhaps we can visit “Enchanted Rock” when we are in Texas later this year. Thanks for your post!

Betty, several years ago we spent two months wandering around Texas. We hiked up to the top of Enchanted Rock. I’m not sure I could do it today LOL. The Texas Hill country is a beautiful area. We were there in April and the timing was perfect to see the Bluebonnets. We also loved the Texas Gulf Coast. If you go back to my 2015 March and April posts you can read about our Texas adventures and the state parks and COE parks where we camped.

As a native Texan, I enjoyed seeing Enchanted Rock in your “collection”. I’m also glad I experienced it in my younger years. Word of warning to those planning to visit – summer is brutal and don’t be caught up there in a thunderstorm!

Beith, once again your post is filled with this beautiful planet and places you discovered along the way. You are such a resource for places to go, a blog I read and often shout to my husband: “have you heard of this”. We have traveled extensively too, and yet I love seeing places through your lens. Such a well-organized feast of images. So many to love, but spacial attention for me was the beehive huts, the rocky bridge at the Scottish Highlands, St. Kits and the Giant Causeway.
And now I need to rewatch Lucy and her travel adventure. Wonderful. Thank you.

Some amazingly beautiful rocks Beth and then an interesting set of little rocks collected without your knowledge 😊. Loved your response this week.

Thanks Tina. Like you, I had to stop myself from including every rock image in my archives! Even after I hit Publish I thought of a few that I should have included.

Judy, I’m glad the Ireland images brought back fond memories for you. It it didn’t require a long plane ride across the Atlantic I would go back in a heartbeat!

When you said you had lots of rock photos, you weren’t kidding. With as much traveling as you have done, it isn’t surprising though. You really captured natural at its best.

Thanks Karen! I could have posted a lot more rocks but I didn’t want to bore anyone!
