Ritva’s challenge is Portraits. She says “Whether you choose to ask a stranger, do a self-portrait, take the portrait of a friend, family member, or acquaintance, or photograph animals and birds, the goal is to connect with another person or subject and tell their story through your image.”
I enjoy nature and wildlife photography and am not comfortable asking strangers if I can take their picture. I didn’t have to ask this young man to pose for a portrait. I was holding up my phone taking pictures of a Junkanoo Band from the Bahamas performing as part of a St. Patrick’s weekend celebration when he walked over to me and posed. He liked having his picture made!

I’m much more comfortable capturing bird and other animal portraits.

This bear and the female elk seemed to pose for me.

I will end with my favorite portrait of Blondie, our beloved Yellow Lab who was part of our lives for many years. She’s been gone since 2017. I still miss her every day.

Many thanks to Ritva for this challenge Lens-Artists #340 – Portraits

These are wonderful animal portraits, I truly enjoyed them. You have skills ana good equipment? also.

Ritva, thank you for this challenge. At first I didn’t know how to approach it and then the idea of animals made sense. I’ve had lots of practice with wildlife photography. I also have a 400mm telephoto lens.

Great portraits Beth. It looks like Blondie brought a lot of joy into your life. I know what it’s like to miss a dog. We had a pit mix that I miss terribly, and we are getting ready to say good-bye to our current dog who is 14 1/2 years.

I love the bird photos, and that lovely Blondie, but my favorite is the young man in green with the expressive eyes!

What fun, Beth. You always do great job capturing birds and wildlife, as you did this time. You really see Blondies sweetness. Our kids had a yellow lab for years, one of the best dispositioned dogs I have ever known.

Curt, thank you so much. I really enjoy wildlife photography. Yellow labs are the sweetest! Blondie was our fourth lab, the only yellow one. She loved everyone and was very gentle with kids.

Beth, I am like you and feel more comfortable with wildlife portraits than people. Occasionally, I’ll have a long lens that allows me to photograph people without them knowing it. Your wildlife photos are amazing. That bear was looking right at you. Blondie must have been a great pet. She looks adorable in that photo.

Egidio, thank you so much. Full disclosure about the bear – he was in a wildlife sanctuary in Alaska behind a fence. He must have been used to people with cameras. Blondie was a great pet and travel companion. She traveled with us in the RV and loved meeting people. She was very gentle with little children. All of our grandchildren got to spend time with her.

Awww, you can tell Blondie is a sweetheart just based on one photo Beth! And I loved the guy who wanted his picture taken – too funny. Also loved the bear. Hope you had a long zoom for that one!

Tina, thank you! Yes, Blondie was a sweetheart and brought a lot of joy to our lives. Yes, I had a long lens for the bear but I have to confess that he was behind a fence in a wildlife refuge.

The character of each comes through clearly in these portraits Beth. That strutting Heron is a stunner!

Thank you Lindy! That Heron strutted across the paved trail like he owned it! What you can’t see is there were people walking and biking nearby and alligators close by.
