Lens Artists Photo Challenge #341 – Personal Favorites

For this challenge Tina is challenging us to show no more than five of our all time personal favorite images representing special moments or memories.

This is a really hard challenge for me. I have thousands of pictures in my archives. Most of them remind me of a special time, place or event. The sunrise in the header image was taken in my own back yard. It reminds me of how grateful I am for the gift of another day.

One of the most memorable events from our very first long RV trip occurred in Arches National Park in Utah. We wanted to take the hike for a close up view of Delicate Arch. The hike involved walking up slick red rock and included walking along a narrow ledge before getting to the Arch. I am terrified of heights and the idea of the ledge terrified me but I managed to get all the way to the top to take this picture. This picture reminds me of how I overcame my fears to see this beautiful sight.

This silhouette of Henry at sunset reminds me of all the wonderful memories we have from our RV trip traveling south from Washington to California on Highway 101.

I have literally thousands of images from our 2013 RV trip to Alaska. We saw amazing landscapes and wildlife and visited many unique places. I chose this image because it brings back happy memories of our fun filled week in Haines. We took the time at the end of each day to enjoy this spectacular view from our campsite.

The last image reminds me to take the time to stop and enjoy a sunset when I get a chance. I call this tree the bird tree because I often see herons, egrets, wood storks, roseate spoonbills, and other birds perched on the dead limbs. The tree is located on the road to our neighborhood. I’ve driven past it many times over the years and have captured many beautiful sunsets here but this one is my all time favorite.

  1. Your backyard view is gorgeous. Isn’t that hike up to Delicate Arch worth traversing the narrow ledge, granite rock face, and for me going through a HUGE spider web that I didn’t see while hiking up there before dawn for a sunrise shot. Well done for you overcoming your fear to get there!

  2. Like most of us Beth, you chose wonderful images that also have a story behind them. I always love your thoughts about treasuring each day, you’re so right! Each is a gift not to be squandered. Good for you for conquering your fears for the Arches image, and the image of a wonderful memory watching for whales in Alaska. But my favorite is your closing image made that much more special by the heron enjoying the glorious sunset along with you!

  3. A great selection of images! They’re all good but I think I like the photo watching the view from your campsite. It’s so much better than would be an image of the view without the people. I like the couple holding hands.

    1. Joanne, many thanks. Our chairs were the two on the left. We met the couple on the right at a campground in Canada on our way to Alaska. We kept seeing them in different places and camped with them in several campgrounds.

  4. I like how you have shown more personal shots and more the shots that many of us take. I really enjoyed hearing about the personal stories behind them Beth. That shot of the Arch is a wow shot.

  5. Wow! Each one is accompanied by gorgeous pictures, sweet memories, and fantastic stories.
I, too, hiked up to Delicate Arch. My two boys went ahead of me. When I got to that narrow path, I could not believe my two boys had no fear! It was such a wonderful hike to see such a beautiful sight. Thanks for the memories!

          1. I did get it. They all come through. WP needs to get this figured out as other bloggers are having the same thing happen. Thanks for letting me know!

  6. Love that you started with sunrise and ended with sunset (as I did too!) Was that Long Beach with Henry’s silhouette? And kudos to you for wrestling with your fears and accomplishing a goal of seeing and photographing a beautiful sight at Arches!

    1. Lindy, thank you so much! You were close about Henry’s silhouette. I took it from the beach near our campsite at Cape Disappointment State Park. There was a path to the beach behind our campsite. The sunsets were amazing from there. I worked hard taking taking that hike to get the photo of the Arch!
