For this challenge Ann-Christine asks us to share our memories of fairs, Farmers’ markets, Christmas markets, or carnivals.
It has been many years since I went to a fair or carnival but I sometimes enjoy strolling through open air markets and Farmer’s markets or attending festivals. Unfortunately I’m usually too busy browsing and shopping to take any photos so I’m afraid I don’t have many images to share.
The following image and the featured image are from the open air market in Marigot in St. Martin. The stalls were filled with colorful locally made items.

The Savannah Scottish Games and Celtic Festival is held every May. The colorful kilts of the clans, the sounds of the bagpipes, athletic competitions, tents from various clans, food vendors, Irish Dancers, and Irish Music are a few of the fun things to enjoy at the festival.

One year we stumbled upon the Llano Fiddle Fest when we were traveling around Texas. We had fun for two days tapping our toes to the music of the talented fiddle players.

The Savannah Book Festival is held every February. Book lovers turn out despite the chilly weather for a chance to hear a talk by their favorite author and hopefully get their book autographed. Some of the lines can get quite long for some of the authors.

I’ll finish with a beautiful display of vegetables for sale at a Farmer’s Market in Virginia.

Last week the responses to John’s challenge Photo Composition with Lines, Colors and Patterns were very creative and fun. Be sure to check back on Saturday, August 16 at noon Eastern Time when Sofia will be hosting the challenge

Wow Beth, you do have wonderful photos to share and the memories to go with them. Thanks for sharing images of open air markets, Celtic dancers, fiddle fest and the farmers’ market. They were all colorful and beautiful.

Thanks Anne! The Fiddle Fest was a real treat. We had no idea it was going on when we got to Llano. Unexpected events like that are so much fun. I spent a lot of time looking for photos from other events like the World’s Longest Garage Sale but I must not have taken any pictures!

I understand. When we were traveling, I wasn’t taking pictures. Now that I am taking pictures, we don’t travel that much!

We tried the Haggis. I’m not a fan but my husband liked it. He ate haggis when we were in Scotland.

Nora, the book festival is always held in February. People come from out of town to attend. They usually have some best selling authors. When the authors speak they are inside. The best part is getting to meet them after their talk.

For someone who doesn’t go to them much, you have some great images Beth. I have to confess I like farmers markets, but I tend to see the place through my stomach and not my camera.

Leeanne, I’m like you at Farmer’s Markets. I don’t take too many pictures because I’m too busy trying to decide what I want to take home.

I love these festivals for their food and goods vendors, Beth. I don’t know how much $ I’ve spent at Ren Faires over the years. Wonderful shots of the ones you visited!

Thanks Terri! Oh yeah, I’ve spent lots of $ at our local Farmer’s Market. That’s why I don’t have any photos of it!

Oh, you managed to find great pictures of music and fun! I love fiddles, bagpipes and kilts wherever I find them! Dancing is great fun too – wish I still could properly. Those dancers always look so happy.

The book fair! We have a big one in Lisbon every year and also here in Scotland, which I’ve never been to, working or buying…! Obviously love the Scottish fair too.

Sofia, we have attended the book fair several times over the years. My favorite part was hearing the authors speak and then meeting them afterward. I love the Scottish Games!

Nice variety, Beth! I’d love to attend a Scottish festival… but I’ll skip the haggis, thank you. >grin<

John, we both tried the haggis. My husband liked it, not me. He also ate it when we were traveling around Scotland.

Nancy, these were all fun events. It’s amazing how many times I didn’t take photos at a fun event. I’m glad you enjoyed these.
