John has a fun challenge for us this week – On the Move. He asks “How do you travel? Where do you go?”
I started my blog in 2013 as a way for our friends and family to follow us along on our four month RV journey to Alaska and back. The featured image is of our truck and fifth wheel in our campsite in Denali National Park in Alaska.
From 2006 to 2019 we spent many days on the move as we wandered around the United States and Canada in our trusty Chevy Silverado towing our home on wheels. We traveled from campground to campground, state to state, and through a few Canadian provinces. Sometimes we would be away from home for a week or two, other times for a month or more.
We towed our fifth wheel on interstates and back roads and sometimes took it on a ferry to get where we needed to go. I captured the first image in the following gallery as we waited our turn to board the small ferry to cross the Yukon River from Dawson City, Yukon. We also towed our camper on the Alaskan ferry from Skagway to Haines and on a Texas ferry on the way to Galveston.

During our RV travels we would often take excursions on different types of transportation. In Alaska we took a ride on the Alaska Railroad, rode a bus in Denali National Park, took wildlife cruises from Haines and from Seward, and landed on a glacier in a small plane.

In 2019 we made the decision to park the RV and take different kinds of trips. We went on our first ever ocean cruise 2022. We were hooked.

We had some fun modes of transportation in some of the ports. We rode on a Wacky Roller bus in Dominica, an open-air Safari bus in Tortola, Henry drove us around St. Martin in a Talon 4-wheeler, and the Monster Bus in Costa Rica took us into the rain forest.

No matter how we move from place to place we always enjoy seeing new places, meeting people, and enjoying the scenery along the way.
Thanks to Egidio for taking us back to challenge #31: Landscapes last week. Your responses took us around the world with your wonderful landscapes of mountains, valleys, oceans, and so much more.
I hope you will join in for this week’s challenge. Be sure to tag your post with Lens-Artists and include a link back to John’s post Lens-Artists #374 – On the Move!.
Be sure to check back on Saturday, November 22 at noon eastern time when Patti will be hosting the challenge.

Jet, many thanks! I’m happy to share these adventures with you. Going through my archives brought back many good memories of our wanderings. I’m grateful we were able to make these trips when we did.

Thanks Tina! I’m so grateful we made all these trips when we were younger! Those safari buses in the Caribbean were not very comfortable as we rode on steep, bumpy roads but they sure were fun!

Wow! Wonderful travel gallery, Beth! I’m sure you know our love for cruising. Such a relaxing way to travel and see other places making it so much more about the journey.
The Alaska trip photos made me a bit sad. Not because of your photos, but because of our lost opportunity to do a land-sea cruise. Less than a week before we were scheduled to leave, we came down with COVID. My niece and her husband made the trip. On their tour of Denali, they were one of the very few that got to see Denali in full sunlight for the two days it was visible on their journey.
We did a similar bus tour on a large open-air bus similar to your photo. I’m not sure where we were when we visited the rain forest, but I don’t think it was Costa Rica. I’m going to have to do some photo searching.

John, I had so much fun putting this post together. Thanks for your great challenge to inspire me.
We didn’t get to see Mt. Denali while we were in the park but we saw it several times from overlooks outside the park. My favorite view was from that red airplane when we our pilot flew really close to the mountain.
So sorry you weren’t able to do your Alaska trip when you planned. Did you ever get to go? If not, I hope you get to see it one day.

Thanks Rebecca! I had to overcome my fear of flying in small planes to take that flight to see Mt. Denali and land on the glacier. It’s one of my fondest memories from all our travels.

Lovely photos of your travels, Beth! It’s nice to know one can pull a trailer onto a ferry! We still enjoy our travel trailer, but the Viking bug bit us and our first river cruise is next October. You’ve really experienced a lot of travel!

Terri, many thanks! I had so much fun reliving these adventures as I put this post together. As we’ve aged we don’t travel as much as we used to. I’m grateful we did it when we were younger! We’ve never done a Viking European River Cruise but we had a great time on the Viking Mississippi in February. Everyone I’ve talked to who has done the river cruises love them.

OMG! We went across the U.S. in 2013 in our rig. That was when I also started blogging! That Alaska trip must have been wonderful.

Thanks Anne! Wouldn’t it be funny if we crossed paths in one of the campgrounds? We drove from Georgia to Montana and crossed into Alberta north of Great Falls before we arrived in Alaska. I’m so glad we did the trip when we did!

We took the southern route, up the east coast and across the northern states. I’m glad we did it too. We couldn’t do it now.

Great photos! We always wanted to travel to Alaska, but with all our travels we unfortunately have never made it. Hopefully someday.

Thank you so much! I’m so grateful we were able to have these adventures when we were younger and more fit! We really enjoyed discovering many places that a lot of people just drive through or fly over.

We feel the same way. Do it while we can. It sounds funny but my husband has a timeline for more strenuous trips and later more low key. I have always been on the move, so I don’t want that time line. lol

A big slice of life you shared here. Great post and photos! The perspective of your Chevy truck waiting to get on the boat made it look almost as big as the boat itself. 🙂

Thanks Egidio! I had fun going down memory lane as I put this post together. I’m so glad we made all these trips when we were younger! We were sitting in our truck when I took that picture of the red truck and trailer boarding the small ferry. Our truck and trailer were about the same size. And we were almost as big as the ferry. It was a short trip across the river.

Thanks Ann-Christine! We were in the park for several days and never saw Denali. We lucked out with a sunny day for the plane ride.

Ours too, Beth. There isn’t nearly as much backpacking. Grin. Actually, Peggy and I have loved our river cruises. And now we are focusing more on going somewhere and hanging out for a month.

Curt, when we were RVing we always talked about staying somewhere for a month but somehow it never happened.
