For this challenge I chose some military aircraft images in honor of my father who was a United States Air Force pilot. Dad flew a B-24 Liberator during World War II. The header image is of a B-24 on display in Savannah, Georgia. Later in his career he also flew a B-17 and a B-47 like the ones on display at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Pooler, Georgia. He also few a B-52 during his career.

The following slideshow features U. S. Air Force and U.S. Navy military aircraft on display at air shows and at the U. S. Naval Aircraft Museum in Pensacola, Florida.
Many thanks to our host Ann-Christine for the challenge Lens-Artists Challenge #270 – On Display

The last photo in your slideshow was the squadron I was in during my navy days. Thanks of the memories

Impressive displays – and glorious memories of his life. B-52 I know of because of the war, and Pensacola I think we were reminded of in the movie with Tom Cruise!

Thank you! Pensacola is the home of the Navy’s Blue Angels. My Dad flew a B52 in the 60’s.

What a great idea to showcase military aircraft, with your dad in mind. I am not sure people realize what it took to pilot those older aircraft. He was truly a hero. I love art shows, especially the Blue Angels. The precision and tactical magnificence is next to none. Fantastic post Beth.

Great choice Beth. Did your dad continue flying the rest of his life? We have a great air museum on a docked aircraft carrier here in CHS. We loved our tour

Tina, my Dad had to stop flying when his eyes got too bad. He spent the last years of his career doing other things in the Air Force. I’ve never been to the aircraft carrier in Charleston but we toured one in San Diego. Very impressive.

Excellent. The Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson AZ has a hanger devoted to a restored B-17 and all the bombing missions in WWII. The losses were staggering. https://www.390th.org

Your photos are great, and it is wonderful that these historic planes are made available for us to learn from. Thank you to your father for his service and your family for supporting him. 🇺🇸 My uncle was a gunner in WWII. So many families made so many sacrifices.

Judy, thank you. I was an adult before I realized the sacrifices my mother and all the other wives made. I’m so grateful for those who served and are serving and for their families.

We stayed at Pensacola for the night on our fall trip a couple of weeks ago. Now I’m sorry I missed the museum. I’ll put it on my list for next time.
