Our challenge from Amy is to show things that are unique.
I took a blogging break while we were on a recent cruise. We had a few unique experiences during our journey.
The highlight of the cruise was a partial transit of the Panama Canal. The ship entered the original Gatun Locks from the Caribbean near Colon, Panama. The above image shows the ship passing through the first of three locks before entering the Gatun Lake. After a short while on the lake the ship turned around and returned back to the Caribbean.

Another unique experience was in Jamaica. Hummingbirds were flying all around us when a hummingbird perched on my finger to drink nectar from a tiny bottle. Thanks to Henry for capturing this moment. It only lasted a few seconds.

Celebrating Thanksgiving with a delicious dinner on a cruise ship was a new experience for us. And I didn’t have to do any dishes!

Many thanks to our host Amy for the challenge Lens-Artists Challenge #278 – Unique

How cool to go through the marvel of the Panama Canal! My Grandparents lived in Panama when he was in the Army way back in the 30’s and I’ve wanted to go there and see it after looking at the photos my Mom has of them there. That Hummingbird feeding off your finger was neat and must have so exciting for you!
It sounds like a great trip!

You’re back! All great photos, but the hummingbird on your finger quickened my pulse. What an amazing experience.

Thanks, Judy! There were hummingbirds and other birds flying all around us. Other hummingbirds chased off the one on my finger after a few seconds. It was a fantastic experience.

Humming Bird photo opp is unique. Did you prefer your Thanksgiving Dinner this way?

Thanks Marlene! None of the family could be with us for Thanksgiving so we decided to go on a cruise to somewhere we wanted to go and let the ship’s chef do the cooking. I loved it!

Neat photo and experience with the humming bird. Peggy and I had a Canal Cruise lined up. She had lived in Panama for a few years and was eager to get back. That was when covid hit.

Curt, so sorry your Canal cruise was cancelled. I hope you and Peggy will be able to book another cruise. Going through the canal was an amazing experience.

Thanks. We’ve certainly thought about it. The trip did have some competition, however, like our trips on the Rhine and Nile and our recent safari in Southern Africa. Grin.

This made me smile. I was crossing the same time you were, and in fact the boat I was on was going through the Panama Canal on its next leg. I too enjoyed Thanksgiving on board. No dishes was nice, and so was the not overindulging part. Lovely photos and how fun to enjoy hummingbirds close up.

What a small world! What day did you go through the canal? We went through the locks on Nov. 19. We saw a cruise ship come from the Pacific in the new locks that day. Yes, the hummingbirds were awesome!

ooo. I wrote that wrong, Beth. We were cruising, but not where you were. We did a transatlantic crossing. BUT our ship was going through the canal on its next leg, after we got off.
