John has chosen Winter for this challenge. Our winters are usually mild here in coastal Georgia. There is sometimes frost on the ground and occasionally the temperature drops below freezing but snow is a rare sight.
I’ve lived on the Georgia coast since the mid 1970’s. The biggest snow storm I’ve ever seen here took place a few days before Christmas in 1989 when the several inches of snow stayed on the ground for a few days. Everything in coastal Georgia shut down. Roads and bridges were closed, including the bridges on Interstate 95. Sadly, I don’t have any photos to share.
A more recent snow storm occurred on January 3, 2018. The freezing rain and snow that came through that day caused road and bridge closures. For two days schools were out and government offices were closed. Coastal Georgia was transformed into a winter wonderland.

I’m not a cold weather person. The ice and snow are beautiful to see but I would be happy if we never had another snow or ice storm here.
Many thanks to our host JohnBo for the challenge Lens-Artists #328 – Winter

Nice gallery, Beth! Ice is beautiful, but most treacherous. It’s even dangerous to go outside to get a photo.

John, thank you! All of these photos were taken in my own yard. Hopefully that was the last time I’ll see ice here for a while.

Ice makes a lot more interesting photos than snow, I think. I love your icicles.

Sofia, thank you. I’m glad you liked the icicles. There were some beautiful ones after that storm.

Great photos. I love the frosty field in the first one, as well as all the iciclers.

Thanks John. Icicles were on most of the plants around the neighborhood.

Great photos but palm trees don’t like ice.
Glad the storm is gone.

Nancy, you are right about the palm trees not liking ice! It’s been a while since that storm. I would be happy if we never had another one like it.

Egidio, so glad you like the icicles. They were beautiful but the ice created dangerous conditions on the roads and bridges. When that happens we just stay home.

Beth, it’s the same here. Where there is ice/snow, a lot of businesses close.

Pretty pictures! I agree with you. If I want snow, I’ll go visit it and come back to my warm home in Florida!

Pam, you live in the right place to escape cold winters. We used to take our RV to Florida to get away from the cold for a few weeks every winter.

With you 100% Beth! It’s so pretty when it happens but like you I’m more than happy with its rarity! It does make for beautiful photography tho, as you’ve clearly shown. This year’s been a bit colder than normal thus far but predicted to be returning to normal this week – fingers crossed!

Tina, I’d much rather look at the pictures of ice and snow instead of seeing it in my neighborhood. I’ll travel to Alaska and other cold places in the summer. It’s 57 right now. I get really cold when it gets in the 40’s!

Many thanks! The ice is fun to photograph but I don’t like the cold!

No that part is not fun

Ice storms are dangerous but the end result is quite beautiful if you don’t have to drive or walk on it. I’ve had my share of ice but do love a scene of newly fallen snow.

Karen, thank you. When we get an ice storm I may go out in the yard to take photos but mostly we start a fire int he fireplace and stay inside.

Ice storms are so beautiful, but surely can be dangerous. Nice gallery, Beth!

John, thank you! The roads and bridges can get really dangerous here. Schools, businesses, and government offices usually just close so people will stay off the roads.

Great pictures, Beth. I particularly liked the shot of ice on grass. Very unusual. I’ve seen my share of ice and snow over the years. I remember a particularly nasty ice storm in Atlanta, actually. I was several stories up watching cars slide around on Peach Tree Street. Plus I lived in Alaska for three years. We had a couple of inches of snow here yesterday. No biggie, but pretty.

Thanks Curt. We lived through an ice storm in Atlanta in the early 70’s. Not fun! It has only happened a few times since we moved here. Our kids loved it when they were in school because school would be cancelled. I remember having to turn on the radio in the morning to find out if school was closed.

We’ve got snow coming tomorrow, and it’s really cold. I like photos of it better also, but I do live in cold country. 🙂

Judy, you live in a beautiful place! Stay warm and cozy and enjoy the snow. Do you ever get used to the cold? Are you going to Myrtle Beach next year?

Our weather pattern has reached a new crazy. It was 55℉ yesterday and now will drop back into the 20’s. It is really crazy. No, our Myrtle Beach winter chapter is closed. My husband has a couple of issues that are easier to manage when we are at home and close to his specialists. There are many aspects to aging, and this is definitely one of them.

Judy, we were watching the local weather last night and they were counting the days since the snow storm I posted about! I understand about needing to stay close to home. Our travels our limited now, too.

Amy, thank you! I’d never seen icicles like that here in Georgia before. I’m glad I bundled up and went outside.
