For this challenge Patti has given us tips on how to focus on the subject in our photos.
She asks us to “Select 2 or 3 tips and then use them to compose several photos. In your post, share your photos. Try to limit them to 4. Identify what tip you used. For an extra challenge, post a “before and after” photo of the same scene/person/object. Identify how you could improve the first shot and then reshoot it, using one of the tips mentioned here.”
Vary your subject placement

Get Closer to the subject

Use Negative Space

Use Leading Lines

Last week Tina challenged us to use the Rule of Threes in our photos. Your responses were wonderful. Thank you to everyone who joined the challenge..

Beautiful gallery. I particularly like the house finch and the road in Ireland. I enjoy images of roads that disappear around a bend or over a hill.

Paul, thank you so much. We drove on many winding roads in Ireland that disappeared like that. So glad you enjoyed the images.

Very nice photos. I specially liked the two birds: one with bokeh created in-edit, the other with a tele lens

I always love your animal photos, and the hot air balloon is bright and colorful, but the Irish landscape just made my morning. Thank you for the good memories that float through my mind when I see photos of Ireland.

Thanks Judy. I’m so glad to hear my Irish landscape made your morning and brought back happy memories of your trip to Ireland. Going through my archives of the trip brought back happy memories for me, too. I’d love to go back.

Thanks Donna! We get a lot of House Finches in our back yard. That one is the first one that looked like he was posing.

A lovely set of visual choices showing how simple composition shifts can completely change a photo’s story. The House Finch really stands out with negative space and selective focus, while the hot air balloon uses emptiness in the sky to emphasize color and shape. The road in Ireland is a great example of leading lines your eye naturally follows it straight into the landscape. Together, these techniques quietly guide attention without ever feeling forced, which is exactly what strong photography does.
