Lens Artists Photo Challenge #319 – Setting a Mood

Ann-Christine asks us for images that set a mood. I haven’t had much time to focus on the challenge this week so my post will be brief.

Two weeks ago we had no power or water after Hurricane Helene brought rain and extremely strong winds overnight. I am grateful that we are safe and only had minor damage to our home.

The three cabbage palms in these images have withstood multiple hurricanes and tropical storms for over 40 years. Both of these images were taken two or three days after Helene passed us by. To me, both of these images portray a calm and serene mood.

Serenity after the storm

I am grateful we are safe and our house is fine. My prayers go out to all of those who were affected by Helene and by Milton. So many had it much worse that we did. I am grateful to all of the volunteers who are helping those in need and to all of the electric company linemen who are working tirelessly to restore power.

Many thanks to our host Ann-Christine for the challenge Lens-Artists #319 – Setting a Mood

Sunday Stills: Peach and Orange

Terri’s latest color challenge is peach and orange. When I think of these colors I think of autumn leaves and pumpkin patches. Here in coastal Georgia our leaves don’t change colors and I don’t see many pumpkin patches.

My home state of Georgia is known as the Peach State so my first two images feature delicious Georgia peaches. Their season is short and is over for this year. I really wish I had some fresh Georgia peaches to enjoy right now.

I don’t have any images of orange leaves or pumpkins but I found these orange flowers and butterflies in my garden this month.

Fire Bush

Exploring Nature’s Golden Yellows with Gardens, Flowers, and Butterflies

Terri’s Sunday Stills challenge is Nature’s Golden Yellows. The Lens-Artists challenge from Ann-Christine is What’s in a Garden? Both these challenge have flowers and nature in common so combining them into one post made perfect sense to me.

I’ve discovered many golden yellow flowers and butterflies during walks in nature and when visiting gardens. The following images are a few of my favorites.

Yellow at Calloway Gardens

Garden in Alaska

Yellow Butterfly

Yellow Meyer Lemon in my garden

I’ll finish with a gallery of yellow flowers

Afloat during the 1996 Olympic Games

Are you enjoying watching the Paris Olympics and cheering on your country’s team? I sure am. 28 years ago, I wasn’t watching the Olympics on television. I was an Olympic volunteer.

During the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Henry, our daughter, and I were volunteers at the Olympic Yachting events in Savannah. For two weeks we got up at the crack of dawn to spend our days on the Day Marina, a floating barge system where the boats were launched and the athletes prepared for their events.

Athletes and volunteers rode a shuttle boat from the mainland to the Day Marina each day

Our job was to help with launch and recovery of the boats. It was great meeting athletes, coaches and trainers from around the world and to see the boats up close.

It was exciting to see the athletes returning to the Day Marina after their events.

Being an Olympic volunteer was a once in a lifetime experience. The memories of those days will stay with me forever.
