Wandering Around America One State at a Time – North Dakota

State 31:

Welcome to the next post in my series highlighting states we have visited throughout the years. I hope you will enjoy coming along for the ride!

I will be featuring the states alphabetically. The next state in my series is

North Dakota

North Dakota became the 39th state on November 2, 1889. The capital is Bismark.

Our one and only visit to North Dakota was way too short.  After traveling into North Dakota from Saskatchewan, Canada we were headed for South Dakota when we stopped for a night in Williston. It had been a long driving day and we just wanted a hot meal and a place to sleep for the night.

The next day as we continued driving south on Highway 85 we stopped for a panoramic view of the Badlands of the Little Missouri. We also passed close by one of the entrances to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. There were bison far off in the distance. We would have loved to stop to explore a little more but time was against us on that trip.

    1. Thanks for the link! We tried to get back to Theodore Roosevelt NP a couple of times on other trips out west but either the weather was horrible or the timing didn’t work out. Glad we got to see what we saw on our quick trip through the state.

  1. We’ve traveled through North Dakota twice, once on the very northern route 2 and then 94. We loved both drives. Both of us were surprised how much ND has to offer and how much we enjoyed the state. Devil’s Lake on route 2 is beautiful and has a wonderful campground. Minot is a cute town. On 94 we stayed in Jamestown for a few days and did some bike riding and visited the little town museum which was very well done. Bismark’s capitol building is very interesting and different. Nice city. Then, we stayed in Medora to visit Theodore Roosevelt NP which we didn’t explore enough. If you get back that way, do plan to really explore the state.
